Guest Review by Ethan – How to Eat Fried Worms

24 Jan

Today I have a special guest reviewer – Ethan (age 8)! This is Ethan’s third review on my blog check out his other reviews listed under my guest reviewer category!

How to Eat Fried Worms

By Thomas Rockwell

128 pages – ages 7 and up

Published by Yearling on June 1, 1953

Billy makes a bet for $50 if he eats 15 worms. He eats them with ketchup, mustard and other things on his worms. His Mom and dad doesn’t  know that he is eating them until he’s sick. I like this book because he puts ketchup and mustard on his worms.  I also like when he cooks them fried or boiled.  I learned that your actions should not hurt other people.  I learned this from what happened after the baseball game.  I also learned that you should tell parents what you’re doing. There are some yummy recipes at the end.

I give “How to Eat Fried Worms” four out of Five (fried) Book Worms!

Thanks Ethan for the great review! I hope those recipes are not for making fried worms!! If anyone knows of any kids that would like to do a guest review on my site, please let me know – you can contact me at Erik@thiskidreviewsbooks.com !

A simple smile crept across my face as I read and re-read your title. Please share with Ethan that this title was definitely in my top five childhood faves. LOL

Long after I finished this book and much into my adult life I always wondered what fried worms tasted like. I’ve eaten an assortment of odd things, but still no fried worms.

Thanks for bringing a smile to my face. I’m excited to share this book with grandson one day.

You know, I’ve actually never read this book although it’s been around for some time! Maybe because the idea of fried worms grosses me out :) Thanks for a great review, Ethan – I can tell you enjoyed the book! I think it’s great that you guys are both read so much and are willing to share your thoughts in reviews. I just recommended this blog to a friend with a boy who isn’t so interested in reading. I hope he’ll come see what you guys like and find some fun in reading for himself!

Great review Ethan and so wise saying always tell your parents. That’s very true, you may need their help sometimes.

Great review Ethan! Sounds like a perfect book for kids. Have seen the title before, but since I don’t like worms, haven’t checked it out. Maybe it’s time I set my worm-prejudice aside and look at the book. But eating them??? You pointed out some good lessons you learned.

Erik great idea to have guest reviewers.

I really hope the recipes in the back are not for fried worms. :)

There is a worm salad, and they make the carrots look like worms, no real worms.

Ethan, super review. Mmmm I think I would be willing to eat 15 worms for $50, would you? Though I don’t fancy getting sick from it! You are right, though, it would be a good idea to mention this type of thing to one’s parents. Looking forward to your next review.

I liked this book, and thank you everyone for your kind comments. Its fun reading book, and good to share my thoughts about them. My dad said he read this book when he was little, over and over again, but he never ate any worms. (as far as he knows)
Thank you Erik, for letting me review the books that I read!

Thanks for the great review, Ethan. I have three grown sons, and they also ate some strange things on bets with their friends. I have never read this, but hopefully I’ll have grandchildren in a few years, and I can read it to them.

    Well done Ethan.
This is book I had enjoyed reading along side my son years ago. I hope my grandson has read it, too. Mlaika Bourne
