•  Hi, my name is Erik. I love books, so that’s why I have this blog . The reason I’m doing this is for parents to approve of a book, and for kids to find an excellent book too! Speaking of kids, did you know that I am one too? I  am 10 11 12 13 years old. I got the idea for this blog when my grandmom told me she was shopping for a book for me and didn’t know what to buy and a kid in the store told her to get me “The Strange Case of Origami Yoda”. He said it was a good book and that I would like it, so she bought it. Well, it is a good book and I did like it. I thought that if my grandmom would take the advice of a kid maybe “this kid” (me) could help other kids and grown-ups looking for books for kids, find books they like. Plus my Mom is always trying to find “appropriate” books for me so I am going to include some of her and my Dad’s thoughts on some of the books I read.
  • READ THIS PARAGRAPH!!!!    If you do not see  the book you are looking for do not worry. Tell me about it and I’ll give you my opinion. If you have any questions, ask me and I’ll try to answer it.  OR if you know of a great book I might like, let me know, I am always looking for good material!! Thank you!

                                                                     Your new friend, Erik :)

      • Sam Sail October 6, 2011 at 9:05 pm #

Me too! I wish I had heroes of olympus: the lost hero.
I’m nine years old. I have my own website but it’s not that good.
I’m a really good reader. I have read all of the harry potters, own more than 300 books ( I counted) and have recently finished reading the first five books about Percy Jackson. Email me at: samsail@live.com.au
I think that this website was a brilliant idea. Are you sure you’re 9 years old?
Hope to hear from you soon,

      • thiskidreviewsbooks October 6, 2011 at 9:50 pm #

Hi Sam! Yeah I’m nine (almost 10). I’m a pretty advanced reader. I read A LOT. My parents let me start this blog so I could talk to other people about books and reading. Plus it helps me with writing (I wasn’t that good at it but I think I got better). Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Awesome! I think you’ll really like the Percy Jackson series. ‘The Lost Hero’ is by Rick Riordan and its a new series of heros for Olympus. I think you should read the Percy Jackson series before you read it though. If you read it first though, it gives away book five. Erik -OUT

    Hey Erik,

I know a number of books that I quite enjoy, though I would guess that they would be more teen/adult target audience. Have you gone back and read the old Goosebump books? I _loved_ them when I was younger (well accept for the pick-a-paths). They are worth checking out.

    Hi Erik,
You’ve done an excellent job so far and I’m sure I’ll be checking in every now and then when my nine-year-old runs out of books to read.

I wanted to suggest a book to you that I liked when I was younger: Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome. It was originally published in 1930 but and has been re-released several times since then. The recommended reading age is 9-12.

    Keep up the great work!

    • thiskidreviewsbooks August 10, 2011 at 4:22 pm #

Thanks for stopping by and for the book suggestion! I will check it out. I haven’t heard of that book before. I am sure I will be stopping by your blog too when you post new book reviews!

    Hi Erik,

I love the blog (and thanks for commenting on mine). I love both reading and writing stories for Young Adults and will definitely be using your website and reviews as a resource. I have a section of my blog for book reviews too and I’d love your thoughts if you have some time. Best of luck sir. I’ve subscribed and will be back again soon.

    • thiskidreviewsbooks October 4, 2011 at 6:33 am #

Thank you Mr. Culp! I did like your post about books and movies. I am always disappointed in movies they make out of books I read. I looked at the books you recommend on your site and I think you have great recommendations! Here are a couple there I haven’t read yet. The books in your review section are too adult for me (i’m 9…well almost 10) but the subjects look like something I’ll like when I’m older. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I am going to follow yours!

  62. R. H. Culp October 4, 2011 at 9:52 am #

Thanks Erik. I was actually just thinking that I’m going to start reading and reviewing more books for your age group, so you’re in luck. Thanks for following.

  65. cupcake2eater October 15, 2011 at 6:25 pm #

I’m not sure if you’d like this book and I don’t know of you’d read it but you should Harry Potter and the Philopsher’s Stone. I wouldn’t reccomend it for a nine-year-old even if it is for ages 9-12 but I’ve got a feeling you can handle all the words in the book that most nine year olds wouldn’t be able to read.

    • thiskidreviewsbooks October 15, 2011 at 9:12 pm #

Hi! Thanks for the suggestion! I have read the first Harry Potter book and I thought it was really good. I haven’t read the others in the series yet. Thnaks for stopping by my blog and if you have any other book suggestions, please let me know!
      Erik :)

I have a book recommendation for you: The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles (you can look it up on Amazon.com).

I read it when I was your age, and again when I was in High School. I recently read it to my 4yr old son who loved it as well. Its a wonderful book, about children who use their imagination to go on an adventure to an unusual place called “Whangdoodleland”. They meet strange creatures, like the Wiffle Bird (who only speaks in emergencies), and the Splintercat who lives in a tree covered in yarn.

Its written by Julie Andrews, who was in the movie “The Sound of Music”

And tell your mom that it is appropriate for all ages, but also fun to read for both kids and adults!

    • thiskidreviewsbooks December 1, 2011 at 6:49 pm #

That looks like an AWESOME book! Thanks for telling me about it. I am going to ask my parents to get it for me :)
I also really like The Sound of Music movie! Doe a deer a female deer – ray a drop of golden sun…..

One thing that Erik does that I think brings more visitors to his blog is that he reads and comments on a lot of other blogs. That’s how I found him. He started commenting on my blog so I came over here and visited him. I know a lot of his fans (myself included) also talk him up to our friends and on our blogs. I’ve recommended his blog to several of my friends who have kids Erik’s age and who might like to read the same books he reads or might be inspired to start doing their own writing.

Hey Erik! Have you read the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan? I just finished the Mark of Athena, and I LOVED it! I would recommend it if you read the Percy Jackson series.

      • thiskidreviewsbooks November 24, 2012 at 8:04 am #

I did read Heroes of Olympus! I agree it is a great series! :) Have you read Mr. Riordan’s Kane Chronicle series? I think that series is even better, but I know a lot of people like the ones with Percy Jackson in it more. Thank for visiting my blog! Please come again :)

  81. Emma November 24, 2012 at 11:25 am #

Yes, I have read the Kane Chronicles, although I must agree with the others, I do enjoy the Heroes of Olympus more. But I love the Egyptian mythology! Rick Riordan was talking about making a Norse mythology series.

    • thiskidreviewsbooks November 25, 2012 at 1:41 pm #

I heard that too! I hope he does because I like Norse mythology too :) Have you read Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman? It’s a great Norse mythology story :)

  82. Emma November 25, 2012 at 4:32 pm #

No, I haven’t. I’ll try to find it though. Thanks.

    Hi Erik,

I am 13 years old and I really want to get a new book. Do you know any books which can be like harry Potter series or the Percy Jackson series? Have you heard about the author named Jacqueline Wilson? Her books are awesome, too. Waiting for your reply! :D

    • thiskidreviewsbooks February 18, 2013 at 7:08 am #

Hmmm… I would recommend the Beyonders series by Brandon Mull, The 39 Clues series by Rick Riordan, Gordon Korman, Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson, Patrick Carman, Linda Sue Park, and Margaret Peterson Haddix, the Jack Blank Trilogy by Matt Myklusch and… Hmmm… This is hard… ;)

  86. The Narrator March 6, 2013 at 11:44 am #

    Dear Erik:

As the narrator of The Templeton Twins Have an Idea, I wish to commend you on your excellent taste in narratives. Of course, you could have praised me more, but I suppose I must learn to live with whatever crumbs of recognition I get from the public. More importantly, I am pleased to see that you did not–as so many lesser critics do–heap praise upon Mr. Ellis Weiner, whom people insist on identifying as the author of the book even though it is obvious that the story is told by me.

    Well done, young critic.

I know you will be thrilled to know–just as I am thrilled to know–that the next book in the series, The Templeton Twins Make a Scene, will be published in September or October of this year. I look forward to reading your typically astute and accurate review of that one, too, when the time comes.

    Yours truly,
    The Narrator

    • thiskidreviewsbooks March 6, 2013 at 5:43 pm #

      Dear Mr. The Narrator,

Thank you so much for having the sense to post such a meaningful comment. You are obviously a Narrator of great taste! It is an honor to have you on my blog!

      Sincerely sincere,

Hello Erik – you’re an extremely mature 11-year-old, and I’m very impressed by you and your blog. When in the world do you have time to do all this reading AND go to school?!

I wanted to recommend Goblin Secrets, which just won the 2012 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature. Also, I’m curious about whether you’re reading any classic literature for young readers, such as Watership Down, which, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend.

    Keep up the good work!

  106. Wilhelm December 2, 2014 at 8:38 pm #

I found out that ALL of them need moderation, so only pay attention to the long one!

I made a new account, so the ones that say “Wilhelm” on them are kinda over said, and the big one, Erik, you can pay attention to that one, all the others were “exited phrases”, which are where you are so exited you don’t think about what you’re gonna say. I’m a writer too, but the big paragraph is the one with all the information in it. Thanks.

Yeah, because this is your first time commenting on my blog (today), so they need my approval to appear on my blog. :)

Hi Erik I am ten and I need a book request from you. I am looking for some books I can read. I’m a advanced reader, and my teachers KNOW it. Thanks, and thanks again.
