Ten year-old  Kat has a HUGE fear of water. To help her, Kat’s parents make her take swimming lessons which she is NOT fond of because she doesn’t want to get her face or head wet. When her parents take her to an island on vacation, Kat is NOT pleased. She is surrounded by water! One day, while exploring, Kat finds a strange whistle in the ocean. Even stranger than that, a fish told Kat to come back at night and blow the whistle. Kat does this and the whistle summons the Water Knight (a dolphin) who tells Kat about a horrible curse put on the island and that she is the only one who can break the curse by defeating the evil toad that put the curse on the island. Of course conquering the toad will involve Kat facing her greatest fear.

When I first started reading this book I thought it was very slow and I actually almost gave up on it (unusual for me). When I got about half way through the book, the story really got involved and exciting. I wish there was more of the last half of the book and less of the first because the idea of the story was really cool. So I’ll say I am still glad to have read it!

I give it 3 out of 5 book worms.

  1. Nice review. I was hoping the Water Knight would be a dolphin. Great mammal. I like your blog. Nice to find titles I have not heard of yet.
