Some Cool Stuff for 2012

I am trying a couple of things this year that I wanted to tell everyone about! 🙂

First – If you haven’t noticed I have been doing Susanna Hill’s “Perfect Picture Book Friday” (PPBF) and I am going to try to keep doing this feature every friday (did you see the cool badge?). PPBF is picture book recommendations by all sorts of people and it’s published every Friday. There are all sorts of great books that I have never heard of listed. You should check it out HERE.

Second – I entered Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 in 2012 challenge (another cool badge). The challenge is to take your picture book ideas (I did Tara Lazar’s PiBoIdMo in November) and make them into 12 picture books in 2012. I don’t think I can do 12, but if I can do one or two, I will be happy and I think I will learn a lot from doing it. There’s still time to sign up for 12×12 in 2012! You can see how HERE.

Third – I am going to try to get other kids to send in creative things to my website. I started it off with my sister’s poem and made a new category (Creative Kids), but I am going to try to spread the word about it and see if anyone knows any kids that would like their poems, stories or artwork published on my site. I’d like to make a logo for it too. So if you know any kids or teachers / home schoolers that would like their kids / student’s work featured -let me know!

Fourth – I am going to make a FAQ page for my blog. I keep thinking I should and don’t so I am making my RESOLUTION to do it! Watch for it 🙂 .

Fifth – I wrote a book last year called “The Adventures of Tomato and Pea” and I am going to try to write a book two for it and make the first book better and I want to self-publish my first book so I can learn about how to do that.

Sixth – …well I can’t tell you this one yet…I hope to tell you this afternoon or maybe tomorrow, but it’s something I am excited about 🙂 🙂 😉 .

  1. I really love what you’re doing with your blog, Erik. It’s so inspiring!

  2. It sounds as if you’ve got some good plans for 2012. Good luck with them! Can’t wait to see you’re further announcement.

  3. Great goals for 2012! This year I’m joining in Perfect Picture Book Friday and I’m doing the 12 x 12 challenge, it’s nice to know I’m in good company! I’ll pass along this post to my son and some other young writers I know. Good luck!

  4. I’m so glad you plan to continue with PPBFs! I love your reviews. And I think it’s great you’re doing 12X12 – I will be thrilled if I finish 2012 with 12 new PB mss, but like you I will be happy with whatever I’m able to accomplish. I love your Creative Kids idea – I’ll try to remember to mention it on my blog to spread the word. I don’t have a lot of kid readers that I know about (except you :)) but I’ve got a number of teachers and maybe they’ll pass the word along. I’m hoping to do a couple of kid writing contests, so it would be great for me too to find some other creative kids! I’ll be very interested in your self-publishing journey, too. I know nothing about it and have been thinking lately that it might be an avenue to pursue for certain stories… As for #6 – you’ve got me curious! Can’t wait to see what you’re excited about!

  5. I’ll spread the word on twitter and on my homeschool forum about your call for kids.

One of my blog resolutions is to write more posts about how to self-publish this year. It’s sort of on hold till I get my current first draft finished – it’s hard to juggle both. But look for it in the spring. And of course, holler anytime if I can help.

Your blog is really going place, Erik. I love it!

  6. These are superb goals, Erik and I look forward to continuing with you on 12×12 and Perfect Picture Book Friday. I also think #3 is possibly your best, most challenging and in some ways could be the most rewarding. You are clearly an influencer!

  7. Wonderful goals and I’ll pass along the word for more kid’s work to my niece (she’s double digits too). Good luck with all your goals, plus school too.

  8. Sounds like you have lots of good plans for 2012. I have no doubt that you can accomplish whatever you put your mind too. And I will help spread the word about your call for kids as well.

  9. I’m so excited about your plans for 2012, Erik! I will help spread the word about your #3 goal on my Facebook and Twitter, and I can hardly wait to find out what #6 is!

Looking forward to sharing the journey through the year with you. I have a feeling it’s going to be a great year.

    • Very thoughtful post Erik. I’m glad your challenging yourself. And, I hope you do get more kids involved in sharing their work on your blog. I didn’t know you have already written a book and plan to write a sequel –good for you. I keep wondering when you find time to go to school, you are so busy — you must be good with time management. Look forward to next year’s journey with you. And, I look forward to your announcement about #6.

      • Thanks! The “where do you get time to do all this” is going to be one of my FAQs 🙂 (basically I’m a kid who thinks school is easy and I don’t watch TV or play video games, so I have a lot of time for blogging and taekwon do 😉 )

    • Thanks! I need to make sure the “thing” is really goin to happen… It’d be bad to post it to early… 😉 Thank you for spreading the word about getting kids to post on my blog!

  10. Impressive goals Erik! I too am pleased you are joining us in PPF and 12×12, thats wonderful. Very curious about #6, can’t wait to hear what that is all about…like everyone else!

  11. Hi Erik!

What great goals! Thanks for the compliment on the badge 🙂 I had so much fun creating it. PPBF’s has been so much fun to do. I am looking forward to your posts.

I am in 12×12 also! It’s exciting to be doing another creative challenge. I look forward to us inspiring each other.

That is a fantastic idea about getting kids to post stuff to your blog. I love it! I will let my nieces and nephews children know about it. They are all very creative and love stuff like this.

    Happy 2012!

  12. Great goals. Will spread #3 on my FB page.

  13. Wow Erik you sure have great ideas to improve your blog and help interact with other readers, especially children! Gosh, you even wrote a book! I can’t wait to hear about your 6th idea that you can’t tell us yet. 🙂

  14. #7 Learn how to pick a jail cell lock.
