12×12 Halfway There Blog Party!!

25 Jun

It is a 12×12 in ’12 blog party today! It is also the 12×12 halfway point! YAY!

I am trying to do Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Challenge. It is a challenge to write 12 picture book drafts in 12 months in 2012. You can click on the 12×12 banner on the right side bar or the one above to learn more about it.

OK, OK, on to business – WE GET TO CELEBRATE!

Here goes –

At the beginning of 12×12, I thought I would only get 1 picture book manuscript done. Yes, that was my goal, one picture book manuscript. Well, not only did I already get TWO picture book manuscripts finished so far, the book I did for a school project (“Abraham Lincoln from A to Z”), was bound by my school! My school was nice and took all of the books we kids did to a local book-binding company and had them bound and they gave them to us. I know it isn’t like a real published book, but it still is cool to see a book I wrote in a hard cover and it made a lot of us kids even more interested in writing!

I would like to thank all of those people out there who have encouraged me so much and especially Julie Hedlund who is the creator and host of the 12×12 challenge. I give you, a big…

and a happy dance…

To all the 12×12’ers out there, CONGRATULATIONS on  making it this far! 🙂

To celebrate I have made a little LEGO guy that is supposed to be me (as a LEGO guy) writing, with a lamp and a glass of water. Enjoy! 😀

Congrats Erik, you’ve done so well. Not many people try non-fiction pbs off the bat. And that lego is super 🙂

  2. Patricia Tilton June 25, 2012 at 9:23 am #

Fantastic that your school bound your book as a keepsake. Some day, you will look and say “I wrote my first book…” to encourage other kids, even your own. You have achieved many things this year. Congratulations! A great day to celebrate! Love your lego likeness!

  3. patientdreamer June 25, 2012 at 9:31 am #

Wow!!! Fantastic Erik You have always been an amazing inspiration to us and like Pat has already said, you have achieved so many things this year. Two manuscripts and a bound book already, that is so cool! I am happy dancing with you my friend. Great lego too.

Oh my, your Lego guy is fantastic! And YAY YOU for already exceeding your goal — and for having a bound book to show for it. That is so cool, and what a wonderful idea of your teacher’s, to do that for everyone. You ROCK (and so does your teacher.)

I’m so glad to be part of a group with you, Erik. YAY 12×12!!!

    • thiskidreviewsbooks June 26, 2012 at 8:51 am #

I don’t think it would be possible for me to love this post any more. How cool that your school bound your book!!! I wish all schools would do that for kids.

I appreciate your thanks to me, but honestly I must really thank YOU! You have inspired me immensely during this challenge. It is all the more special to have someone your age on board and giving us feedback on our writing as we go along.

Keep it up, Erik, because you are GOING PLACES!!! 🙂

    • thiskidreviewsbooks June 26, 2012 at 8:57 am #

      Thank you Ms. Hedlund.

I really enjoy doing 12×12. I am so happy you started it. 🙂 I wish we could have another “12×12” next year… except for the fact that it would be 12x12in’13. 😦

P.S. Keep up the awesome work you do! You are one of those poeple that make the world a better place.

  7. Paul R Hewlett June 25, 2012 at 11:19 am #

  8. Renee LaTulippe June 25, 2012 at 11:39 am #

HAHA! You throw a great party, Erik! Love the LEGO you AND the fact you have written a REAL book with a cover and everything — that is fabulous! My goal for 12×12 is three picture books, so maybe we’ll both finish with the same number — and if so, I will join you in the happy dance!

Congrats on everything you’ve already accomplished this year, and all the things I’m certain are still to come in the next six months. Yay!

    • thiskidreviewsbooks June 26, 2012 at 9:03 am #

Thank you Ms. LaTulippe, for the very nice compliments! Good luck on your MS’s! I am glad you like LEGO Erik! 🙂

Erik, what a great blog party! I feel the energy in the happy dance, the warmth in your Lego guy smile and the AWESOME A-Z Lincoln book. I would love to read it – Lincoln is one of my favorite history figures. I’ve also read bio on Mary Todd, visited their house in Springfield, his tomb and law office. This is my first visit to your blog – it is very professional and you are amazing now – but you will be one who achieves greatness because you believe in your dream and follow it. Congrats on your accomplishments and blessings in the next 6 mo.

    • thiskidreviewsbooks June 28, 2012 at 11:08 am #

Thank you Ms. Miller! I am glad you like Snoopy, LEGO Erik, and my book! I love Lincoln too! Thanks for stopping by and please come again!

  35. Lynn A. Davidson June 30, 2012 at 11:00 pm #

Eric, I have fallen behind .. but as the ‘cow’s tail’ (and it’s important too, because how else could she swat those nasty flies! 😉 ) … I want to join you in the happy dance. You are doing great! Now that you have a book published at school – (no matter how it was done it is published) – you are well on your way. I’m sure you can complete at least one more manuscript for 12×12 as well, if you put your mind to it. And I must add, Lego Eric is almost as cute as you! How nice that you have a writing buddy. 🙂
I am so proud of you.

    • thiskidreviewsbooks July 1, 2012 at 10:48 am #

Thank you Ms. Davidson! At least you are still on the cow! 😉 I am glad you like LEGO Erik and my book and my unfinished manuscript! 😉 I am glad to have YOU as a writing buddy! 😉

      • Lynn A. Davidson July 2, 2012 at 3:43 pm #

haha. Yes, good point .. still on the cow.
And please forgive .. for some reason I started spelling your name with a ‘c’ instead of a ‘k’. No idea why I did that when I know the difference.
You are sweet, thanks for calling me your writing buddy. It’s wonderful to have one (you) and to be one (yours). 🙂

      • thiskidreviewsbooks July 3, 2012 at 10:34 am #

Don’t worry, I get the “c” instead of a “k” a lot. 😉 I am glad to have you on the cow. (Hee Hee) 😀
