The Schoolies Collection

By Ellen Crimi-Trent

Meant for pre-school aged kids

Published by Priddy Books (Macmillan)

Your first day of school. You remember that from when you were a kid, right? It probably made you think of a bunch of different things. Probably, at first, you may have been a bit scared not knowing what to expect.  The Schoolies books/activities by Ellen Crimi-Trent are made to help parents show their kids what will happen when they start school.  The six different books and activities also help kids get ready for the thing they will have to learn in school.  Schoolies are cute little animal characters in the books and activities. In School House there are paper figures and the pages fold out to make different play sets that look like scenes around a school.

My School Day is a board book that has a movable clock in it. The book tells kids what happens during the school day (it goes from waking up in the morning through the school day and ends with coming home at the end of the day. The story book My First Day of School, shows Spencer owl on his first day of school. Spencer soon gets over being worried about school because he meets nice friends right away and finds out he likes to learn in school. Making Friends is a story book about shy Lydia Ladybug and how she makingfriendsfeels when Mrs. Meow tells the class that it is friendship week in school. Lydia is too shy to make friends but soon learns that she can easily make friends by being nice and sharing.  Let’s Get Ready for School and the Activity Flashcards are meant to help kids start learning the things they will have to know in kindergarten. Both the flashcards and the book have a wipe away marker so kids applecan do the activities over and over by wiping the marker away.

You start using the Schoolies every day and soon your child loves playing school! And before you know it, school is starting! And your child is excited! Hooray!

I think that these books will be great for young kids and their parents. The illustrations are just awesome. They look like they were cut from paper or fabric, giving a feeling of arts and crafts. The characters are cute (there are 2 worm characters – one loves books (WHOO!) and the other plays sports – and they both where regular shoes. 1 shoe for each of them!). I like how some of these books are interactive, like the Schoolies Wipe Clean book and the one where you can set up scenes from school. All the books have stickers and activities in them. I think this set of books and activities provide a nice look into the school day. My sister and I really enjoyed the books. They are made well and are very fun to look at and read. My little sister really liked the My School Day book with the movable clock. She also liked the illustrations.

I give the Schoolies series 5 out of 5 book worms! fivebooks
