Eight year-old Shelby Sherman Sanford was just a normal kid. He and his normal family sat around eating normal popcorn on Halloween night. They talked about all the things that scare them about Halloween. Dad was afraid of Jack-o-lanterns, Mom was afraid of ghosts, Penny (his sister) was afraid of witches (real ones not fake ones). Shelby couldn’t think of one thing he was scared of. In fact, Shelby wanted to go for a walk outside Halloween night. But Shelby’s parents wouldn’t let him. That night, Shelby had a fantastic Halloween dream. He walked out of the house and met witches and ghosts and had a wonderful adventure. In the morning Shelby told his family about the awesome things he saw, but it was only a dream… or was it?
The plot of this picture book is very unique. The story is very fun to read. I think the illustrations are very well done, and I like the collage-like feeling to it. They really pull you into the adventure in the book. I especially like Shelby’s glasses. I really enjoy the part where the family shares their fears. That was a nice touch. The book is more of a story book than a picture book because there are a lot of word on a page. I can see this being a great book for a family to read together or an older kids to read alone. I think it would make a nice bed-time story too. The mysterious ending of the book is really fun.
I give this book 4 out of 5 bookworms!

FUn Read. You’re piling on the points I see! Don’t break my bank.
This is a fun read! Only one more Reading for Renn day to go for me! Don’t worry I will try to keep it under 1000 points! 😉
This sounds like a fun book, Erik. And sleepwalking can be pretty spooky. Have you ever seen anyone do it? My oldest daughter used to when she was younger and man-oh-man it was creepy!
I haven’t seen anyone do it, but my Dad used to. My mom said he’d even try to go out of the house! The story is a fun story Ms. Hill! Check it out! 🙂
I’m afraid of jack-o-lanterns, too. Those guys are freaky.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
You must not like this time of year then Cupcake! 😀
Hmmm. Sleepwalking. The Mom Person says I do a lot of sleepwalking but I don’t actually go anywhere. I don’t know what she means by that. The book sounds pretty cool. Looks like he’s sleepwalking on a broom. I like collage kinds of pictures.
I’ve seen dogs sleepwalk Rhythm. They kind of lie there with their legs going. 😉 The pictures are really great in this book!
Sounds like a very cute book. Although at 64 pages, I can see why you have a hard time calling it a picture book.
I think it is more of a story book – like a long fairy-tale type. It is a fun story. I think it is a great bed-time story for Halloween time!
Another must-have! Thanks, Erik.

I love collage artwork. The book cover suggests that kind of artistic style, and it caught my eye. This would have been perfect for our current theme. Looks really nice.
The illustrations are wonderful in this book!
