Punxsutawney Phyllis’ 10th Anniversary Birthday Bonanza!!! WOOOO!!!!

2 Feb

(Well – other than having a snow day off of school) πŸ˜‰

Today is Punxsutawney Phyllis’ tenth Birthday! WOO! Punxsutawney Phyllis is the wonderful character created by the awesome author and hare-brained scheme thinker upper – Susanna Leonard Hill!

Well, Phyllis is an over-eager a nice young groundhog with a funky spirit, so I decided that she needed something with a nice funky tune.

The rules for this contest are (copied from Ms. Hill’s blog):

“Phyllis and I are looking forward with GREAT anticipation to reading YOUR poems for Phyllis [about Phyllis], and hopefully seeing some videos too…!

If you wrote a poem for Phyllis, and/or have photographs, drawings, videos, or other fun feature accompaniments, please add your post-specific blog link to the list below, or post your poem etc in the comments, or Email it to me and I’ll post it for you so that we can all enjoy everyone’s creativity!”

Because I’ve been nagging asking Ms. Hill consistently politely and patiently for a video contest for (at least) a year now, I can’t reallyΒ not do a video.

So, here it is! The lyrics (written by me) are below the video.

Viva Las Phyllis!

Oh Phyllis you are the finest

They should give you a crown and call you her royal highness

As many times as I’ve read your books

People stare and they give me looks

Well – it just isn’t enough – no – it just isn’t enough

Phyllis It’s your special day

And we just want to say

Oh Phylllis, you are the best

Weather predictions better than the rest.

I watch the six o’clock news

and they get me all confused

I just need to ask you

You tell it to me straight

Forget that news at eight

Al Roker says it’s gonna snow

And you say β€œI don’t think so”

Happy Birthday Phyllis

Happy tenth birthday!

(and yes, my voice is that deep. πŸ™‚ )

Thank you Ms. Halsey! Happy B-Day! You share it with a great groundhog girl! (or does she share it with the wonderrific you?) πŸ˜€

    *applauding with eagerness!*

That was a wonderful video. I do believe Phyllis is going to be beside herself with happy, joy, joy, giddiness from your video bithday dedication!

Thank you! I think the snow day was awesome too! But what did you think about the video? πŸ˜‰ Thanks Ms. Jensen! πŸ˜€

    This is brilliant. Simply brilliant.

And you look like a Blues Brother!

    • thiskidreviewsbooks February 3, 2015 at 9:06 am #

      Thank you Mr. Allegra!

I’ve never seen the Blues Brothers (but now I want to). Mom suggested that, so I got on my suit (dang it – the sleeves are getting too short, and I could barely fit in the jacket (but I did). Darn growth spurts! πŸ˜‰ ) dark sunglasses (that were slightly big – notice how they kept slipping off), and a fedora.
Mom said I did good, except that I had black socks on. Confused, I went to get white socks on… Now I really need to see the movie! πŸ˜‰

      • heylookawriterfellow February 3, 2015 at 10:19 am #

Oh, you better wait bit for the movie. (Unless your parents are OK with you hearing a near endless stream of bad language). That said, The Blues Brothers does have the best car chases you could ever hope to see. Ever.

      • thiskidreviewsbooks February 9, 2015 at 9:14 am #

Yeah, we tried watching the Men In Black (first movie), and it was good, except for the huge amounts of cussing. πŸ˜‰ We stopped watching in the middle of it (it was bed-time) and never picked it up again.

I might be able to see The Blues Brothers in a year or so, like the Matrix. πŸ™‚

      • heylookawriterfellow February 9, 2015 at 10:03 am #

        It’s worth the wait.

      • thiskidreviewsbooks February 9, 2015 at 12:41 pm #

The Matrix or The Blues Brothers? πŸ˜‰

Thanks! I was going for Barry White, mostly because I’ve never heard of Leonard Cohen. Now I’ll go check him out! πŸ˜€

It’s official, Erik! You have knocked Phyllis’s socks off! Wowee! What singing! What dancing! What video-creativity! You brought the funk! Congrats to you, Josie, and your darling dog (whose name I can NEVER remember – Fred? Buddy? Nope, I know those are both wrong!) for an amazing and awesome video creation! Happy Groundhog Day Snow Day! πŸ™‚

Groundhogs WEAR socks?! πŸ˜‰ Well, I do guess it is cold out… πŸ˜‰ Thank you Ms. Hill! πŸ˜€ Clyde is a great dog! He made a great cameo, but I forgot to add him into the credits. πŸ™‚

  18. writersideup February 2, 2015 at 2:01 pm #

What a great video! You and Josie totally beat the Pussycats on that one! I love the effect at the end the best, I think, along with all those slick moves πŸ˜‰

  19. Pamela Courtney February 2, 2015 at 2:56 pm #

That song is all about that bass. Love the voice! How did you think of this? This fun, creative, and totally rockin’! I love it. BTW, love the Blues Brothers suit. And Josie has the smoothest moves, EVER! Loved her outfit. Who designed it. Totally awesome y’all. Well done.

    • thiskidreviewsbooks February 9, 2015 at 8:15 am #

Thank you Ms. Courtney! It was a fun video to do! πŸ˜€ I originally was going to do the parody, but there was no un-copyrighted versions of “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love” by Barry White, so I found some music someone made that went with it, and wrote a poem.

      And, yes, I lip-synched (lip-sang?) in the video that you see, but I lip-synched ( ❓ ) to my original recording. πŸ™‚

  20. kristengjohnson February 2, 2015 at 3:12 pm #

    Bravo! You’re brilliant!

  24. Theresa Milstein February 2, 2015 at 5:35 pm #

    What a fantastic contest idea.

My favorite part of the poem:

Al Roker says it’s gonna snow

And you say β€œI don’t think so”

  25. Patricia Tilton February 2, 2015 at 5:40 pm #

Love the poem, but the video was excellent! You outdid yourself. Tell Josie she looked so cute.

  26. LovableLobo February 2, 2015 at 6:31 pm #

You’re SO smooth, Erik! And your voice! Barry White fans rejoice! LOL Josie makes a great backup dancer and I loved that you included Clyde. What fun! I’m grinning ear to ear. πŸ˜€

    • thiskidreviewsbooks February 9, 2015 at 9:02 am #

YES! Someone finally realized that I was going for Barry White! I’m glad you like the video! πŸ˜€

  27. Hi Erik, great words, music and jive dancing! Especially liked the psychedelic colors towards the end! Cheers and Happy Groundhog Day!

  31. Jilanne Hoffmann February 3, 2015 at 1:39 pm #

Oh, my. You and Josie rocked it! Or maybe blues-ed it? Or grooved it? or….

Anyway, Phyllis is dancing in the streets of Philly right now. πŸ˜€

  32. Lauri Meyers February 3, 2015 at 4:51 pm #

Go Erik! Go Josie! I love Josie’s shirt and your rocking suit. I’m positive Susanna has been having a hard time sleeping because every time she closes her eyes, she hears “Oh Phyllis” and thinks of a new Phyllis book. πŸ™‚

  33. rnewman504 February 3, 2015 at 11:34 pm #

You rock, Erik! That was awesome! And happy, happy birthday Phyllis!!!!

  34. Prairie Garden Girl February 5, 2015 at 1:47 pm #

Erik and Josie! You really know some smooth moves to rock on Phyllis’ special day. What a creative poem and video all for a ten year old birthday girl.

Extra treats for a sweet doggie that I noted on your set.
