Rick Riordan Summer of Magic & Mazes #ReadRiordan

I have made it completely clear in my years of blogging that I am a complete Rick Riordan fan. He is one of the authors I follow and will be first in line to get a book of his when it comes out. I never get tired of reading what he creates. That being said, I am very excited that Disney-Hyperion is partnering with me for a spectacular giveaway!

Check out this prize pack!

I am seriously jealous! I would enter my own giveaway, but that wouldn’t be quite ethical. The lucky winner will get:

Summer of Magic & Mazes!

One (1) winner receives a “Summer of Magic & Mazes” beach tote plus seven Rick Riordan books!

  • The Trials of Apollo series — with an autographed copy of The Burning Maze!
  • The Kane Chronicles trilogy – plus new companion book Brooklyn House Magician’s Manual!

Giveaway open to US addresses only.

Prizing and samples provided by Disney-Hyperion.

Can you believe it?!? SEVEN books and one of them autographed!!!!

The Trials of Apollo: This series follows the god Apollo who was tossed out of Olympus by Zeus as a punishment. What makes matter worse is Apollo takes the form of an acne-riddles 16 year old mortal named  Lester Papadopoulos! Apollo must restore five oracles that have gone dark before Zeus will let him return to Olympus. All the books  are told from Apollo’s point of view, which has Riordan at his best as he intertwines humor, action, and white knuckled suspense in his story. This series introduces us to new character but also has many of our favorites from Camp Half Blood.

Book 3 of The Trials of Apollo, The Burning Maze, has just been released this week!

Summary from Publisher: With the help of some demigod friends, Lester managed to survive his first two trials, one at Camp Half-Blood, and one in Indianapolis, where Meg received the Dark Prophecy. The words she uttered while seated on the Throne of Memory revealed that an evil triumvirate of Roman emperors plans to attack Camp Jupiter. While Leo flies ahead on Festus to warn the Roman camp, Lester and Meg must go through the Labyrinth to find the third emperor–and an Oracle who speaks in word puzzles–somewhere in the American Southwest. There is one glimmer of hope in the gloom-filled prophecy: The cloven guide alone the way does know. They will have a satyr companion, and Meg knows just who to call upon. . . .

What I Thought: Once again Riordan is at his best. His writing style reaches across ages, appealing to his target middle-grade audience as well as adults. He blends laugh out loud humor with, mind blowing action and fantastic story-telling. Apollo matures and grows. He is transforming from the self-indulgent god and really realizing what it means to be mortal and to have to rely on others. The main antagonist in this book, the third emperor is, we, bone chillingly evil is he best way I can describe it.  One thing I love about Riordan’s spin-off series is the many cameos and cross overs of characters from other series. I was overjoyed to see our favorite satyr Grover make a reappearance as a character in this story! The Burning Maze is the third book in what will be a five book series. It certainly has the most serious tone of the series thus far. There are some very tough trials and an extremely tough loss in this book (it was foreshadowed in The Dark Prophecy). I won’t tell you who, but a main character is offed. WHY RICK? WHY?? The action starts right off in the beginning of the book and hold onto you until the very end. It is a roller coaster of action that will make you want to camp out at your favorite book store waiting for the release of the next book in the series.

 Five out of five bookworms!

BUT WAIT YOU GET MORE!!!

The Kane Chronicles are another Riordan favorite of mine. In some ways I enjoyed this series even more than the Percy Jackson series. I think it’s because it deals with Egyptian mythology and I am not very familiar with it. In this give away you not only get the three books in the Kane Chronicles, you also get a copy of Brooklyn House Magician’s Manual which is a companion book.

Brooklyn House Magician’s Manual was just released this week!

Synopsis from the Publisher: Calling all young magicians of Egypt! If the blood of the pharaohs runs in your veins, you can’t afford to be without this guide to Ancient Egyptian deities and creatures, and Carter and Sadie Kane’s world of magic. Featuring fans’ favorite human, divine, and animal characters for the bestselling Kane Chronicles trilogy, Brooklyn House Magician’s Manual offers info about Egyptian mythology in laugh-out-loud entries with surprises throughout, including snarky comments from Sadie Kane and a dastardly plot by an old enemy.

I haven’t gotten my hands on this one yet, so stay tuned for a complete review!

The Kane Chronicles Trilogy is included in this give away. The series was first published in 2011 and now is being re-released with new cover artwork and Percy Jackson-Kane Chronicles crossover stories.

The Red Pyramid #1

 The Throne of Fire #2

The Serpent’s Shadow #3
