Perfect Picture Book Friday! Where Birdie Lives by Elena Tsvetaeva

Susanna Leonard Hill has a feature on her blog called Perfect Picture Book Friday. It is a list of “perfect” picture books recommended by all sorts of people. I chose this book because I really enjoy how it can lead to a conversation about the outdoors and animal habitats!

Where Birdie Lives: A Lift-the-Flap Book
By Elena Tsvetaeva
14 pages – ages 3+
Published by Clever Publishing on January 1, 2019
Theme/Topic- Motor skills / homes / animals

Opening- “Hi birdie! Are you flying home? Where do you live?”

Synopsis from Publisher- “Perfect for toddlers who love to play as they read, this adorable interactive picture book is sure to entertain children – and their parents! This heartwarming tale tells the readers about the quest of an endearing little puppy in search of a birdie. The young reader is challenged to solve a mystery and to look for a birdie under each flap, and then be delighted to find it at the very end. High-quality polygraphy and thick board pages help children develop early motor functions and imagination, and the touching illustrations by a young artist Elena Tsvetaeva will make this book a favorite for your child.”

Why I liked this Book This is a sweet book exploring the places that animals call home. The dog is searching through the yard for where the birdie lives, and the dog meets animals like a fish, a mole family, frogs, a snail and much more. The illustrations are big and colorful, with friendly-looking characters and settings.

The tabs are basic (without delicate moving parts), perfect for younger kids to flip over as many times as they want. This is a great way to learn about the homes of different animals and how varied they are.

This book would be such a fun time reading it with your toddler!

  1. Once I tried to look for a birdie. It didn’t work out. Apparently, I can’t climb trees. Or fly.

    Love and licks,

  2. Oh, I love the illustrations! Thanks for the rec, Erik!
